- Airport code is AVL. US Air, United, Delta, and Allegiant Air fly into the AVL hub. The drive from the airport to downtown Asheville is 20 min.
- Greenville, SC (GSP) has a similar sized airport about 1 hour away, and has flights from Southwest.
- The largest airport in the area would be into Charlotte, NC (CLT), about a 2 hour drive into Asheville.
- Johnson City, TN (TRI); Knoxville, TN (TYS); and Winston-Salem, NC (GSO) also have airport about a 2 hour drive to Asheville. (TRI- 1.5 hrs, TYS- 2 hrs, GSO- 2.5 hrs).
To drive to Asheville:
I-40 runs east-west and I-26 runs north-south (but is marked E-W) in Asheville. The Blue Ridge Parkway also comes into Asheville from the northeast (from Boone, NC).
- If coming from west of the Appalachian mountains, will take I-40E from Knoxville. This is the route for Ohio and midwest travelers.
- From Dayton Ohio, take I-75S to I-40E in Knoxville. It is a 6 hour drive. It is really easy and only traffic problem is if there has been a rock slide on I-40.
- From the north (like DC), one would be coming down I-26E from I-81.
- From the east (Raleigh or other parts of NC), one will take I-40W.
- From the south (South Carolina, ATL), take I-26W.
- From Greenville, SC, take US-25.
